We are honored to officially be the first recording session at the new location – documented here & now for the history books! The smell of heavy varnish and paint are still thick in the air.  Blogging from Studio A – a room previously graced by Justin Timberlake, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Will Smith, J Lo., and Kelly Clarkson just to name a few of the superstars who recorded  here when the studio was owned by Larry Gold, a veteran and famed producer.  Walking down the hallway lined with platinum records got me amped up before we even entered the room.  The horn players (two trumpets and a saxophone) were already laying down some tracks for “Loose Tooth” and it was like walking into a real live Stax session.  An immediate soul injection from the brass that elevates the song to a whole new level.  Tim is in rare form, orchestrating and conducting and getting it to sound just right.  Feeling very lucky and excited to be here and seeing it all come together layer by layer.

]]> http://mamamac.net/blog/?feed=rss2&p=81 0 http://mamamac.net/blog/?p=62 http://mamamac.net/blog/?p=62#comments Sun, 20 Feb 2011 21:04:45 +0000 admin http://mamamac.net/blog/?p=62 Our trip to L.A. was awesome – we performed at the historic Kibitz Room (Joni Mitchell used to play here!) which we transformed from a dimly lit afterhours hangout to the perfect children’s venue – first had to round up some lightbulbs, sweep up some broken glass, and kindly ask the busboy sleeping in one of the booths to leave. About 40 of our old friends (10 years since we’d seen many of them last!) and some new fans came out to see us.  It was a real trip to play for our friends’ kids most of whom we were meeting for the first time. The bubbles and bubble wrap were a big hit and we had a nice group dancing front and center the whole time we played.  We also went to the Grammys which was amazing – very exciting to hear them say “We’re live in 10,9, 8…” and the official after-party where we hobnobbed with some of the Philly grammy children’s music nominees – congrats to Steve Pullera & Justin Roberts!  Also spotted Adam Levine from Maroon 5 at a table eating some of the fabulous shrimp cocktail but the rest of the celebrities were no shows.  Best performance of the night was definitely Mick Jagger who did not need any camera booms to exaggerate his explosive dynamism – he worked the entire stage with every part of his body — still rocking out at almost 70! Finally we took our three kids to Disneyland which was exhausting but as much fun as you can possibly pack into 10 hours.  Here are some pix from the Kibitz:
